Question:
Good Morning Code Friends,
My question is a simple one. Does the NEC cover electric vehicles that are not supplying the premises wiring? For example, the vehicle supplies cord-connected portable utilization equipment.
Dennis Hughes
A
Answer:
Hello Dennis,
No the NEC does not cover electric vehicles that are not supplying power to the premises wiring. The NEC does cover the electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) installed for charging processes associated with the EV. Section 90.2(A)(5) in the 2020 NEC covers installations used to export electric power from electric vehicles to premises wiring or for bidirectional current flow. See also Section 625.1.
