Question:
Hello Code Friends, what size wires are required to get an Insulation resistance test. Thanks, Michael Garibaldo
A
Answer:
Hello Michael, insulation resistance testing is not covered by the NEC® however, Section 110.7 requires completed electrical installations to be free from short circuits and/or ground faults. Insulation tests using a Megohmmeter, are performed on new or existing installations to determine quality or condition of conductor insulation. Here are a couple of resources that will provide guidance on the subject:
- NFPA 70B, Recommended Practices for Electrical Equipment Maintenance
- 2021 NETA ATS, Acceptance Testing Specifications for Electrical Power Equipment and Systems
