Question:
Good morning code friends. A building we are working on has multiple services from the utility. Are these considered foreign systems to each other? Similarly, can a busduct or cable tray for one service pass through the dedicated electrical space [110.26(E)] of another? Thanks in advance, Chris Swiss
A
Answer:
Hello Chris, thanks for participating in the CQD. Section 110.26(E)(a) states no piping, ducts, leak protection apparatus, or other equipment foreign to the electrical installation. The intent of Section 110.26(E)(a) is to ensure that there is space directly above or below certain electrical equipment for future installation of electrical cables or conduits. A busduct or cable tray from non-related electrical system could be considered a foreign system.
