Question:

Hello CQD, I was recently at a local inspectors meeting, and I heard that the NFPA is planning to rearrange the current NEC® into a bunch of new chapters. Have you heard anything regarding this proposed change? Any idea when it is going to take place? Where can we find more information? Thanks in advance, Ben Schroeder

Answer:

Hi Ben and thank you for your participation in the CQD. There have been some recent discussions by the NEC Correlating Committee (NEC-ACC) regarding a potential reorganization of the NEC®. Nothing has been officially proposed or acted on by any committee to date. The NEC Correlating Committee did release a white paper document discussing a need to modernize the NEC® as well as, a draft showing a proposed new NEC layout. The NEC Correlating Committee is currently seeking comments and feedback from the entire industry. In 2006 Charlie was awarded the prestigious Coggeshall Award for outstanding contributions to the electrical contracting industry, codes and standards development, and technical training. Even though Charlie passed away in October of 2015, his work continues in spirit. NECA continues to maintain this question forum for its many subscribers in memory and recognition of all his significant contributions to making the NEC what it is today.
