Question:
Hello Code Question of the Day. Section 680.23(B)(1) & (2) specifies requirements for wet-niche luminaire installations. These Sections imply that a junction box (Deck Box) meeting the requirements of Section 680.24 is always needed for the installation of a wet-niche luminaire. My question is this: Is a 680.24 compliant junction box (Deck Box) need to be installed for a low-voltage wet-niche luminaire that operates below the low-voltage contact limits and the low-voltage luminaire does not require grounding? Thanks, Chris Hettinger
A
Answer:
Hi Chris thanks for your question. If the low-voltage wet-niche fixture, operating at or below the low-voltage contact limit without grounding has wiring that extends directly from the wet-niche luminaire forming shell, a junction box conforming to 680.24 would be required. However, the required junction box would be permitted to be installed in accordance with Section 680.24(A)(2)(c) if both conditions in Section 680.24(A)(2)(c)(1)&(2) are met.
