Question:
Hello Code Question of the Day, I am upgrading my customer’s electrical service to a 200A to give allowance for the additional loads being added from an extensive renovation and addition. The previous portable generator installation had objectionable current flow over the metal raceway. Without removing the generator bond or switching the neutral with a transfer switch, I think that running the generator conductors in PVC conduit will eliminate the objectionable current flow on the raceway. In your opinion, is this code compliant. Thank you, Christopher D.

Answer:
Hello Christopher, based on the information in the question there is nothing in the
NEC® that would prohibit the use of Rigid Nonmetallic Conduit (PVC) for the wiring method to the inlet for a portable generator connection. The installation of the RNC (PVC) will need to comply with Article 352.
