Question:
Hello CQD, does the
NEC® require ground rods for a whole house generator installation? Thanks, Everett Mitchell
A
Answer:
Hi Everett, ground rods are not generally required for a generator. However, if said generator qualifies as separately derived system, then the generator will require a grounding electrode connection in accordance with Sections 250.30(A)-(C). Additionally, if the manufacturer’s installation instructions require the installation of a ground rod(s) at the generator unit, then it would also be required.
