Question:
Hello CQD, thank you for sharing this information with us every day. We recently wired a basement rec room with a kitchenette. This kitchenette area has a refrigerator, sink, built in convection oven, and a pizza oven that plugs into a standard 110V, 15A receptacle. Does the code require 2-20A small appliance branch-circuits serving the countertop of this kitchenette? Thank You, Vikki Rasmussen

Answer:
Good morning, Vikki, glad to hear you are enjoying the CQD. Section 210.52(B)(1) requires 2-20A small appliance branch-circuits serving wall, floor, and countertop receptacle outlets required by 210.52(A)&(C) for kitchens, pantries, breakfast rooms, dining rooms, or similar areas. A Kitchen is defined in Article 100 as: An area with a sink and permanent provisions for food preparation and cooking. The area described in your question has a sink, and a built-in (permanent) convection oven. This meets the definition of a Kitchen, as such, the 2-20A small appliance branch-circuits would be required.
