Question:
Hello,
I was told awhile back that there is a part of the code which states that the receptacles behind washer & dryer need to be above the machine. This does provide the easiest means of rapid disconnect. Is this stated in the Code? Thanks for doing all of the great work every day.
Thanks
Don Eckstein

Answer:
Hi Don,
Thanks for the question. There is no height specified by the NEC for receptacles supplying washers and dryers. These receptacles are often installed on the wall at heights above the appliance, for convenience and to be readily accessible. If circuit breakers supplying the appliance can be locked in the open position, those are considered meeting the disconnecting means requirements in Part III of Article 422. See 422.30 and 422.31.
