Question:
Re: CQD answer published Tuesday, March 28, 2017 -Triplex Cables
“With this additional definition triplex and quadraplex cables are now specifically allowed but only for overhead service conductors, not feeders.”
So, in your statement above, the code does not allowed triplex to be used as a messenger cable for outside branch circuits & feeders?
Thanks, Alan Chech

Answer:
Hey Alan thanks for your follow up question. Triplex or quadraplex cables can be used for feeders and branch circuits - if they are made of conductors included in 310.104. Those are insulated conductors based on the definition of insulated conductor in 396.2(1). The material typically used on triplex and quadraplex cables is XLPE which is a polymeric material and is based on 396.2(2) but is limited to overhead service conductors.
