Question:
Re: CQD answer published Friday, March 17, 2017 -Receptacle GFCI Protection
Would the cabinet meet the criteria of a “floor, wall, ceiling, fixed barrier, or opening” and not require the GFCI protection?
Thanks, Zach
A
Answer:
Hey Zach thanks for your follow up question. You are correct; I should have included that in the answer. For other than dwelling units, receptacles with the ratings described in 210.8(B), must have GFCI protection if located within 6 ft from the top inside edge of the sink bowl. The distance is the shortest path a cord would follow without piercing a floor, wall, ceiling, or fixed barrier, or pass through a door, doorway, or window as stated in the new second paragraph of 210.8. As you indicate a receptacle located in a cabinet below the sink does not require GFCI protection.
