Question:
Hello,
I have an in-ground swimming pool and I was wondering if the pool pump motor has to be connected to the 8 AWG copper bonding grid conductor. I've checked the motor and there is a lug on it, but I see no connected copper bonding conductor. The local building inspector says it has to be bonded. The pool was constructed in 2013.

Answer:
Hello Paul,
We do get occasional Code questions about pool equipment. The answer to your question is yes. Section 680.26(A)(6) requires the pool circulating pump motor to be bonded, in addition to the metal parts of other equipment associated with the pool water circulating system.
