Question:

Hello Charlie, thank you for providing this wonderful Code forum. We are installing a ground mounted PV system/array. There will be a metal fence around this PV equipment, so we are looking to see if the metal fence needs to be bonded. I did not see anything in Article 690 on this I am hoping to avoid any interpretation issues as we move thru the project. Would Section 250.194 apply to PV equipment? Thanks, Jerry

Answer:

Hi Jerry, thanks for the kind words. If the PV system qualifies as a Large-Scale PV Electric Supply Stations, as outlines in Section 691.4, then fence grounding and bonding may be required. Section 691.11 provides guidance on Fence Bonding for large scale PV. Compliance with Section 250.194 is not mandated by either Article 690 or 691 however, Section 691.11 does reference 250.194 in an informational note.
