Question:
Good morning CQD. In a dwelling unit detached (3) three-car garage, can all (3) three garage door opener receptacles be on the same circuit? Thanks, Matt B
A
Answer:
Hello Matt, and thanks for your question. Section 210.11(C)(4) requires a separate 20A branch-circuit to supply the receptacle outlets in a dwelling unit attached or detached garage. Exception No. 2 of this same Code Section permits the 50% rule found in Section 210.23(B)(2) to be applied in single vehicle bay garages. The garage in your question indicates there are (3) three vehicle bays, so Section 210.23(B)(2) would not be applicable. The load of (3) three garage door openers would likely be too large for a single 20A circuit as well. You may also want to review the requirements in Section 210.52(G)(1) as there are additional receptacles required for each vehicle bay.
