Question:
Hello, I look forward to and love reading the CQD every morning.
My Question - A meat smoker appliance is installed in an outdoor kitchen. It is anchored in place, located under cover, served with a dedicated receptacle outlet, that is not located within 6 feet of any water source. Does this qualify as a fixed or stationary appliance or does it need GFCI protection. Thanks in advance, Chris Barker
A
Answer:
Chris, glad to hear you are enjoying the CQD, and thank you for your participation. Assuming the receptacle rating is within the parameters specified in Section 210.8(B), the receptacle for the smoker appliance would require GFCI protection. The installation you are describing would not fall under either Exception No. 3 or Exception No. 4 of Section 210.8(B) as the appliance is not in an industrial establishment or industrial laboratory.
