Question:

Hello Code friends, I live in rural Marion County Iowa just outside the City of Pleasantville we currently have a temporary 200-amp electrical service that was installed a few years ago by a licensed electrician. My question is we are having a manufactured home set in a couple of weeks. Is the temporary 200-amp electrical service sufficient or does it have to be upgraded to four-wire 200-amp service. Thanks, Anthony Mason
A

Answer:

Hi Anthony, thanks for your question. Assuming you referring to a Manufactured Home that is not also a Mobile Home as defined in the NEC®.

First, the “Temporary Service” does not sound very temporary as it has been installed for a few years. The state of the temporary service should be evaluated by a licensed electrical contractor for what is now going to be permanent use. If it is determined that the service is in good working order, and has been properly installed for permanent use, inspected, and approved, it could be utilized to provide a permanent feeder to the manufactured home. Additional considerations would be Sections: 250.24(B) and 250.64.
