Question:

Hi Charlie, Section 406.12(1)-(10) requires 15A & 20A receptacles (non-locking) in those listed areas must be tamper resisted. Does this requirement extend to receptacles that come as part of a listed modular/prewired furniture systems installed in any of those specified areas? Thanks, Jason Ritchie
A

Answer:

Jason, thanks for the great question. This gets a bit tricky. Section 110.3(A) requires electrical installations to be approved. This approval is likely done by a local AHJ. Section 110.3(A)(1) cites “Suitability for installation and use in conformity with this Code “ as one of the considerations that can be applied when approving installations. Additionally, Section 110.3(C) provides guidance regarding listing of electrical assemblies. If the product is listed, it may not be listed for this specific purpose/location. When there appears to be a conflict between the NEC® and the listing of a product it is always advisable to contact the manufacturer and the NRTL that provided the evaluation and listing.
