Question:
Hi Code Question of the Day. Can nonmetallic conduit be used to protect NM Cable installed thru holes of a wood framed wall, and closer to the face of the wall stud than 1¼ inches? It seems that Section 300.4(A)&(D) contradict Section 334.15. Thanks in advance, Dan Elkington.
A
Answer:
Good morning, Dan, it would be permissible to protect the NM Cable installed thru framing members using
rigid nonmetallic conduit. Section 334.15 and 334.17 both point back to Section 300.4. Section 300.4(A)(1)-(2) and (C) have exceptions permitting the use of rigid nonmetallic conduit for protection in lieu of a 1/16
th in. steel plate.
