Question:

Are wall sconces permitted over a soaking tub? Nec 410.10 (D) does not seem to consider sconces. Does it make a difference if they are damp or wet rated?

Answer:

Hey Geoff thanks for your question. Yes they are allowed because they are not one of the types specifically included in the wording of 410.10(D). Cord connected, cord suspended, lighting track, and pendants are not allowed in the zone described. Luminaires within the bathtub dimensions to a height of 8 ft from the rim must be marked as being suitable for a damp location or for a wet location if subject to shower spray as stated in the last sentence of 410.10(D).
