Question:

Greetings CQD,

Someone has refed an underground feed to a light pole coming up next to it with an LB unilet and a short GRC nipple. The only thing that I see wrong is that they drilled The side of the LB to gain access into it instead of using one of the threaded hubs. I said this is a code violation because they are not using the fitting for what it was listed and intended for? Am I correct if so what code would be reference for the violation?

Answer:

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the question. Section 344.6 requires rigid metal conduit and associated fittings to be listed. Listed products typically come with installation instructions. Based on the information provided, there is a clear violation of Section 110.3(B) which indicates listed or labeled equipment shall be installed and used in accordance with any instructions included in the listing or labeling.
