Question:
Good Morning,
A good friend and coworker and I have a little disagreement on whether or not a receptacle that only feeds temporary lighting is allowed to be installed on temporary lights required by osha on a construction site. This is not for task lighting it is for emergency egress lighting. We have a non GFCI circuit ran from a temporary panel into a ceiling with a light stringer plugged in. I say the last sentence in 590.4(D)(1) says you can't have a receptacle on any branch circuit that supplies temporary lighting.
Thanks,
Kelly Wofford

Answer:
Hi Kelly,
We get this question occasionally. The simple answer is no. Receptacles are not permitted to be installed on temporary lighting circuits. See NEC Section 590.4(D)(1).
