Greetings CQD,

Can a standard wire nut be used for a direct burial splice for a 120-volt circuit if it is filled with silicone after the splice is made?

Answer:

Hi Arnold,

Based on the information provided in the question the answer is no. Connection methods that are directly buried are required to comply with Section 110.14(B) which indicates that connection devices for direct buried splices shall be listed for such use.
