Question:
Does a building intercom wire need to be in conduit?
Samuel Marks
A
Answer:
Hey Samuel thanks for your question. The type of wiring to be used is provided by the equipment manufacturer, based on the output, and typically would not need to be in a raceway (such as a conduit type) or even in a Chapter 3 cable. Some intercom manufacturers can specify shielded or twisted cable constructions. The output can be Class 2 or Class 3 circuits, as they are defined in 725.2, and then would need to be installed using 725.133 and 725.154 as stated in 725.130(B).
