Question:
What is the correct way to support lay in light fixtures in a grid ceiling?
Steve Green
A
Answer:
Hey Steve thanks for your question. Luminaires (formerly called light fixtures) must be securely fastened to the ceiling framing member by "mechanical means". Bolts, screws, rivets, or listed clips, that are identified for use with the type of ceiling framing member(s) and luminaire, can also be used as stated in 410.36(B). The suspended ceiling framing members (T bars) must be securely fastened to each other and to the building structure. Manufacturer's instructions must also be followed as stated in in 110.3(B).
