Question:
Hi Charlie and Company, what is the minimum distance between conduit entries in a box for a feeder conduit running straight through the box, if the conduit is 4-inch, and it contains 4 - 600 kcmil copper conductors? I know this seems simple, but this issue came up in the shop last week and there were a variety of different answers. We just went over this in a Code class.

Answer:
Hello Marla, this is a straight pull of a 600 kcmil feeder through the box which triggers Section 314.28(A)(1). This requires that the distance between the conduit entitles to be not less than 8 times the trade size of the largest raceway containing those conductors. The minimum distance between entries is 32 inches (4 x 8). Thanks for the question.
