Question:
Good morning,
If I install a generator for an optional standby system at a home, do I have to ground it as a separately derived system?
Charles Duda
A
Answer:
Hi Charles,
Thanks for the question. Whether or not to ground a generator as a separately derived system relates to the type of transfer equipment installed. If the transfer equipment provides a switching action in the grounded conductor (neutral) then the generator is required to be grounded in accordance with Section 250.30(A). There is an informational note following 250.30 that provides this information.
Hope this is useful.
