Question:
I read the Code Question of the Day each morning. Learning a lot. A coworker said that when installing rigid metal conduit, there needs to be 5 full threads fully engaged and they need to be wrench tight. I cannot seem to find that rule Article 250. Is this a Code requirement?

A
Answer:
Hi Bill,
Thanks for participating. For general applications, Section 250.120(A) requires fittings to be made tight using suitable tools. The requirement for wrenchtight is found in Section 500.8(E) and five full threads full engaged is specifically found in the rules for conduit installed in hazardous (classified) locations, Section 500.8(E)(1) and (2).
