Section 311.30 (328.14 in 2017 NEC) requires that Type MV cable be installed, terminated, and tested by qualified persons. What are the criteria for determining if a person is qualified?

Hello Sam,
The NEC does not specify who can perform the work. There are a number of NEC rules that require qualified persons to perform the installation, such as the rules you mentioned in the question. The term qualified person is defined in Article 100 as one who has skills and knowledge related to the construction and operation of the electrical equipment and installations and has received safety training to recognize and avoid the hazards involved. Evidence of minimum qualifications are often provided through certification or licensing. However, qualified persons not only have achieved the certification or license in the craft, they have training and experience. Employers have a responsibility to understand the qualifications of workers.
