Greetings Code Friends,
Please confirm or deny that a separate building fed from the utility source of the main building can share the grounding electrode of the main bld. Our local L&I is requiring that additional grounding electrodes be installed. Thank you. Hugh Burch

Answer:
Hello Hugh,
Here are our thoughts based on the information provided. Section 250.58 addresses situations where multiple services are installed on the same building or structure and requires that the same grounding electrode system be used for all of them. The question seems to relate to separate buildings on a property that are each fed by a utility service. The Code requires a grounding electrode system for each building or structure served as indicated in 250.50. If there is one building with a utility service and a feeder or multiple feeders are run from the service in one building to separate buildings or structures, a grounding electrode system is also required at each of those buildings or structures supplied by the feeders as clearly indicated in Section 250.32(A).
Hope this information is useful.
