Question:
If a Siemens panel is listed for their own "QP" style breakers, are you allowed to use another manufacturer's "QP" breakers? The label lists "QP" breakers as compatable but doesn't note a specific manufacturer.

Hey Barry thanks for your question. Panelboard manufacturers typically have their panelboards only listed for use with their own circuit breakers. Just because a circuit breaker fits does not make it acceptable for use in a different manufacturers' panelboard. Information provided in the panelboard cabinet generally includes the circuit breaker types that are acceptable for use. Classified circuit breakers are also available that are of a different rand that the panelboard but have instructions for use in specific panelboards. The answer can vary based on that specific information and is enforceable as stated in 110.3(B). If any circuit breaker or panelboard manufactures, or testing laboratory representatives want to provide additional information please send it in and we will publish it.
