Question:
Good Morning,
We have an existion feeder to a panelboard. There does not appear to be an equipment grounding conductor run with the feeder to the panel. Does the Code require feeders to include an equipment grounding conductor?
Ivan Sanders
A
Answer:
Hello Ivan,
Thanks for the question. Based on the information in the question the response is follows: In accordance with 215.6, where a feeder supplies branch circuits in which equipment grounding conductors are required, the feeder shall include or provide an equipment grounding conductor in accordance with the provisions of 250.134, to which the equipment grounding conductors of the branch circuits shall be connected. Where the feeder supplies a separate building or structure, the requirements of 250.32(B) shall apply. As a reminder, Section 250.118 provides a list of equipment grounding conductors, which includes the conduit or tubing enclosing the feeder conductors. So while a wire-type EGC may not be present with the feeder conductors, the conduit or tubing connected to the panelboard enclosure could be serving as the required EGC. Hope this is helpful.
