Question:
Greetings CQD.
Thanks for your continued work on this forum. Can a circuit breaker be used as the required disconnecting means for a motor if the breaker is installed in a panelboard that is in sight from the motor? Do I need a separate motor disconnect right at the motor too? Appreciate your opinion on this.
Thanks.

Answer:
Hi Benny,
Thanks for the question and your comments. A circuit breaker can be used as the required disconnecting means if it meets the criteria in the definition of the term "in sight from" as provided in Article 100. Also, the circuit breaker must meet the minimum rating requirements in section 430.110(A) which indicates it must have not less than 115% of the full load current rating of the motor.
