Question:
Thank you for your very informative service.
As a retired electrician I enjoy reading code question every morning. Where a three conductor NM cable is supplied by two single pole circuit breakers, 240 volts between breakers, feeding two receptacle circuits, only one strap per box fed only by one circuit, in other words every other receptacles on the same circuit, are the circuit breaker handles required to be tied together? Both circuits run through each box but only one supplies the receptacle in that box.

Answer:
Hi John,
Thanks for the nice comments. Section 210.4(B) requires that each multiwire branch circuit shall be provided with a means that will simultaneously disconnect all ungrounded conductors at the point where the branch circuit originates. See also 240.15(B) for information on the use of single-pole circuit breakers as the disconnecting means.
