Question:
Good morning CQD. Can SER Cable be installed for a branch circuit or feeder inside an apartment building? Thank you, Ron Perkins
A
Answer:
Hi Ron, yes, SER Cable can be used for interior branch circuit or feeder wiring inside a building.
There are few additional rules for using this wiring method. Section 338.10(B)(4)(a)(1) requires that interior installations of SER Cable for circuit wiring shall comply with Part II of Article 334. Part II of NEC Article 334 NM Cable, includes the “Uses Permitted” Section where the use of NM Cable is restricted to building construction types III, IV, and V.
To use SER Cable in an apartment building, it must be constructed using Types III, IV or V construction.
