NECA will host a free web-based educational seminar on "Personal Protective Equipment: Regulatory Changes and the Impact on the Electrical Contractors" on Tuesday, Feb. 24, from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. While the Webinar is free, registration is required for all participants.
Summary Work-Related Injury and Illnesses/OSHA 300A Deadline
The deadline for NECA-member companies to post their Summary of Work-Related Injuries and Illness to OSHA is April 30, 2009. This form, also known as the OSHA 300A, must be posted by employers between February 1 and April 30 annually for the previous year. Failure to post the Summary of Work-Related Injury and Illness can lead to multiple fines or citations.
New and Revised National Electrical Installation Standards (NEIS) for 2009
NECA currently has four new National Electrical Installation Standards in various stages of production and is finalizing revisions of five existing NEIS.

Do Employers Need to Pay for Lineman Belts and Hooks?
OSHA issued a letter of interpretation, Employer Payment for Lineman Belts and Hooks, on May 1, 2008. Although brief, the letter addresses whether linemen belts and hooks are considered to be personal protective equipment (PPE).
Report on the 2011 NEC Development Process
The National Electrical Code technical committees met in Hilton Head, S.C., Jan. 11-24, to review proposals for the 2011 National Electrical Code (NEC).
This cycle there were 5077 proposals submitted to revise the NEC. NECA is represented on each of the 19 NEC technical committees and has six NEC panel chair positions. The following are various proposed changes that have been submitted for the 2011 NEC.
Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace (NFPA 70E)
The 2009 edition of NFPA 70E, the standard from the National Fire Protection Association that addresses electrical safety requirements for employees, was published by NFPA in September 2008.
Ignoring Your Home's Electrical System Can Be Costly
The National Fire Protection Association Research Foundation has developed an important website, www.homewiringsafety.com, that explains the importance of electrical safety in the home. NECA is an active participant in the NFPA Research Foundation projects related to the electrical industry.
Electrical Code Coalition
The Electrical Code Coalition was formed in 1996, with NECA leading the effort. The objectives of this coalition, known at the time as the Electrical Inspection Initiative, were to increase industry focus and emphasis on electrical safety though quality electrical inspections.
2008 National Electrical Code (NEC) Adoption
Since the 2008 NEC was published, approximately 16 states have adopted it.
Counterfeit Electrical Products?
ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR and TED magazines launched www.couterfeitscankill.com as part of the industry-wide effort to curb the sale and installation of counterfeit electrical products. The site is part of the electrical industry's initiative to warn the public about the dangers and liabilities associated with counterfeit electrical products.
