Question:
Hi CQD, Table 220.12 note states: The 125% multiplier for a continuous load as specified in 220.20(A) is included when using the unit loads in this table for calculating the minimum lighting load for a specified occupancy. Does this apply to calculating the number of branch circuits required in an "other than dwelling" occupancy such as a bank or motel hallway?
Have a great day,
Jason Young
A
Answer:
Jason, thank you for your submission. Table 220.12 provides the unit loads for per square foot for "non-dwelling" type occupancies. Looking at the note in Table 220.12 "Banks" are considered "Office-type" occupancies for purposes of applying the unit loads. In addition to Table 220.12, Section 220.14(M) (new for the 2020 NEC) provides additional guidance on calculating the load in Hotel and Motel Occupancies.
