Hey John, thanks for the question and for the comments. Generally, no overcurrent protective device is permitted in any grounded conductor (which typically includes neutral conductors) unless it meets the requirements in 240.22(1) which indicates (1) the overcurrent device opens all conductors of the circuit, including the grounded conductor, and is designed so that no pole can operate independently or (2) where required by 430.36 or 430.37 for motor overload protection.
