Question:
Greetings,
Does the NEC cover battery-operated remotes for TVs, radios, and ceiling suspended paddle fans?
Mark Hansen
A
Answer:
Hi Mark,
The purpose if the NEC is provided in Section 90.1 which indicates that it is the practical safeguarding of persons and property from hazards arising from the use of electricity. This Code is not intended as a design specification or an instruction manual for untrained persons. The NEC generally would not apply to the battery remotes of the equipment referred to in the question. The manufacturer addresses use of the remotes with these types of equipment in the installation and use instructions. The electrical supply circuits for this equipment would be required to meet the applicable rules in the NEC.
