Question:
When you run the number 8 bare copper around the pool does it have to be 18 to 24 inches away from the pool and 8 inches deep in the ground in lieu of just laying around the pool and covers with dirt and stone?
Thanks, Joe
A
Answer:
Hey Joe thanks for your question. If you are using the 8 AWG bare solid copper conductor as an alternate means, to structural reinforcing steel, for bonding perimeter surfaces there are specific requirements in 680.26(B)(2)(b). The bonding conductor must be between 18 inches and 24 inches from the inside walls of the pool and between 4 inches and 6 inches below the perimeter surface if it is not within the surface such as in concrete.
