Question:
Is it a code violation If we have 4 square boxes being used as junction boxes above a grid ceiling where the tiles are locked into place with clips? if so what code? thanks
Robby Robertson
A
Answer:
Hey Robby thanks for your question. Boxes must be located so they are accessible as stated in 314.29. The definition of Accessible (as applied to wiring methods) in Article 100 describes a condition that is not permanently closed in by the structure or finish of a building. Its not clear what you mean by the tiles being "locked in place" with clips but if the tiles can be removed (probably after removing the clips), the boxes are considered accessible.
