Question:
Good Day CQD,
Is a post light (120 volts) required in front of a residential dwelling? If it is, is it required to be GFCI protected?
Paul Henderson
A
Answer:
Thanks for the question Paul. A post light is on a requirement for dwelling units. A switch-controlled lighting outlet at the front door is required by Section 210.70(A)(2)(2). If a 120-volt post light is installed in the front yard, GFCI protection is not required. GFCI protection requirements for receptacles at dwelling units are found in Section 210.8, and there's a lot of them.
