What is the horizontal distance requirement for A 4" emt conduit run before a pull box or conduit body is required?

Greetings Peter,

The NEC does not specify a maximum distance in a conduit run before a junction or pull box is required. This is usually a design consideration and many times is a requirement in the project specifications. The NEC does provide rules related to sizing and installation of junction and pull boxes. See Article 314. Installing pull boxes in long runs of feeder conduit is also a workmanship issue that relates to ease of pulling conductors in and reducing possibilities of damage to conductors. See NEC 110.12. NECA has developed a workmanship standard, NECA-1 Standard for Good Workmanship in Electrical Construction. Installing junction and pull boxes is addressed in this publication.
