Question:
Top of the Morning to you and thanks for this great information. I see this installation quite a bit but was wondering if there is a Code rule to restrict it. This installation is a panelboard installed in a closet located in a hallway of a school. Is this restricted by the NEC?
Thanks for your opinion on this.

Answer:
Hello Mark,
Thanks for the comments. The NEC does not restrict a panelboard from being installed in a closet of a school. It is pretty common to see it done that way. The equipment is generally considered readily accessible, as defined. There is a restriction for overcurrent devices in the vicinity of easily ignitable material, such as clothes closets. See Section 240.24(D).
