Re: CQD answer published Thursday, April 26, 2018 -Field Labeling
Charlie, in the answer you gave to the CQD for April 26 you mentioned field labeling. What is that?
Thank You, Kaylea
Hey Kaylea thanks for your question. Field Labeled and Field Evaluation Body are two new definitions that were added in the 2017 NEC. Some testing laboratories offer a service (FEB)to evaluate equipment or materials in the field (on site) and issue a report. If the evaluation determines the equipment or material meets the requirements of applicable codes and standards a Field Label is attached. The AHJ can then use this to help with their approval of equipment or an installation. The definitions are new to the NEC but the process has been available for quite a while. More information is available at nfpa.org for NFPA 790, Standard for Competency of Third-Party Field Evaluation Bodies and NFPA 791, Recommended Practice and Procedures for Unlabeled Electrical Equipment Evaluation.
