Question:
Greetings CQD,
Is a dedication branch circuit required for an electric vehicle charger installed in a residential garage?
Paul Martin
A
Answer:
Hi Paul,
Yes an individual branch circuit is required for each outlet supplying electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) installed in a residential garage and is required for each EVSE outlet installed in other occupancies. This branch circuit shall not supply other loads. See Section 625.40 Note: even Level 1 EVSE requires n individual branch circuit because of the load it requires on a branch circuit, which usually exceeds 80% of the branch circuit rating. Electric vehicle supply equipment are continuous duty loads.
