Question:
Hello Code Question of the Day.
I have a group of (9) 2x2 dimmable LED laying fixtures in a drop ceiling. Can I feed them with one MC cable whip & daisy chain the rest, or do I need 9 separate feeds to junction boxes.

A
Answer:
Jerry,
The luminaires mentioned in the question should be permitted to be wired to the branch circuit that is run in MC cable from luminaire to luminaire. In this case the branch circuit (MC cable) conductors would be the same size as the circuit conductors. If the Luminaires are prewired with factory whips, the conductors in the whips may be sized much smaller (18 AWG usually) and are intended for connection to a branch circuit that contains the full size conductors. See Section 210.19. If the LED luminaires are part of a listed lighting system, it is best to follow the installation instructions provided by the manufacturer of the system.
