Question:
Hello,
Thanks for this NEC question site. Is there a restriction on painting a flexible cord and cord plug used on a suspended light fixture in a commercial building. If there is a restriction what article prohibits this?
Thank you Jim Graf
A
Answer:
Hello Jim,
The NEC does not appear to have a specific restriction for painting the equipment mentioned in your questions. However there are two rules that could very well be applied to this installation. First check out Section 110.11 which addresses equipment being exposed to deteriorating agents. Also Section 110.3(B) indicates that there may be installation instructions that would prohibit painting of this equipment. The other problem created with this practice is painting over the markings on the cord.
