Question:
Will they be updating the motor tables 430.248 to add 277V motors any time soon? Where can I find the amp loads for these 277v motors?
Steve Stajner
A
Answer:
Hey Steve thanks for your question. Not that I am aware of. Motors rated at 277 volts are not as common as other voltages but are sometimes used within equipment that has an overall nameplate. The equipment nameplate value can be used in that situation as stated in 430.6(A)(1) Exception No. 2. If being installed as a separate motor make sure all of the other applicable rules of Article 430 are complied with, including 430.7. If there is no table value given in the NEC then the only choice is to use the nameplate value or get the value from the motor manufacturer. Another example of having a discussion with the AHJ before the installation is a good idea.
