Question:
Hello Charlie, thanks for the forum. With the prefabrication of electrical systems becoming more and more prevalent, how does impact electrical inspection? Thanks, Ian Stevenson
A
Answer:
Ian, the industrialization of the construction industry is here. We are seeing more and more construction projects using prefabrication to some extent. Your question brings a concern to light regarding inspections. The answer really comes down to business as usual. Just because some of the electrical components are assembled offsite, delivered to the jobsite, and installed does not exempt the installation from inspection. The key is working with the AHJ, maintaining a regular inspection schedule and open lines of communication. There is also an ANSI approved
National Electrical Installation Standard (NEIS™) NECA 5-2022, Recommended Practice for Prefabrication of Electrical Installations in Construction. standard available that may help provide guidance on navigating prefabrication in electrical construction.
