Question:
Good Day Friends.
We appreciate the NEC insights. I have a duplex receptacle that is supplied by two circuits, on to each of the recep[tacles on the same mounting strap for the device. This is for a dishwasher and garbage disposal under a sink. I was told by the inspector that I need a circuit breaker handle tie installed at the panelboard. I've not heard of this requirement. What is your opinion?

Answer:
Hi Joe,
Thanks for the question and comment. Section 210.7 addresses this and indicates that where two or more branch circuits supply devices or equipment on the same yoke or mounting strap, a means to simultaneously disconnect the ungrounded supply conductors shall be provided at the point at which the branch circuits originate. This is usually accomplished using a handle tie identified for use with the brand of breaker installed in the panelboard.
